Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry study of body composition in patients with lipodystrophy.

چکیده
L ipodystrophies are acquired or inherited disorders characterized by selective or generalized loss of adipose tissue. Affected patients are predisposed to insulin resistance and metabolic complications of insulin resistance (1). Noticeably, patients with acquired or hereditary generalized forms are extremely insulin resistant (2,3). On the other hand, in partial forms the ample phenotypic spectrum determines clinical presentations and metabolic profiles of variable degrees (4). Among diagnostic resources for fat distribution evaluation, dualenergy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) has been utilized because of its accuracy, reproducibility, and good correlation with computerized tomography (5,6). The purpose of this study was to evaluate body composition with DEXA in patients with different types of lipodystrophy and to determine the correlation between densitometric, clinical, and metabolic features.

Comparison of Bone Mineral Density Measured by Dual X-ray, Axial Dual-energy Photon X-ray Absorptiometry and Laser Absorptiometry of Calcaneus
The objective of this study was to validate the use of bone mineral measurements of the calcaneus bone by dual X-ray and laser (DXL) in a cross-sectional study carried out in an osteoporosis clinic. Measurements of bone mineral density (BMD) at proximal femur and spine were obtained by dual-energy photon X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Osteoporosis was defined by a DEXA T-score <-2.5 at the femora...

متن کاملComparison of Singh index accuracy and dual energy X-ray absorptiometry bone mineral density measurement for evaluating osteoporosis
Background: The Singh index is an inexpensive simple method to evaluate bone density, commonly used to assess osteoporosis is based on the radiological appearance of the trabecular bone structure of the proximal femur on a plain antero-posterior (AP) radiograph. The purpose of this study was to compare between Singh index and bone mineral density measurement using dual energy X-ray abs...

متن کاملDual-energy X-ray absorptiometry diagnostic discordance between Z-scores and T-scores in a young Iranian population
Background: Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) is considered the gold standard for non-invasive measurement of bone mass. T-scores and Z-scores are used to present the results of bone mass. The present study was designed to evaluate the discordance between T-scores and Z-scores calculated at a same level and its relation with age, gender and body mass index (BMI) in a representative sampl...
